ARTHUR IBBETSON |
Born: 8 September 1922, Bishop Auckland, County Durham, England, UK, as Arthur Francis Ibbetson.
Died: 19 October 1997, Hillingdon, Middlesex, England, UK.
Career: Started in the business as a clapper boy in the 1930s, then spent a long apprenticeship as c.asst and c.op. Graduated to director of photography in the late 50s and became noted for his creativeness on a variety of different types of film, from the stark realism of 'Tunes of Glory' to the colorful pageantry of 'Anne of the Thousand Days'.
Was a member of the BSC.
His sister Alicia Mary Bernadette [1929-77], a hair stylist, was married to doph Kenneth Talbot [1920-93]; his brother Tom [1920-2005] was a property man. His son Paul is a producer.
Awards: BAFTA 'British Cinematography (Colour) Award' nom [1963] for 'Nine Hours to Rama'; BAFTA 'British Cinematography (Colour) Award' nom [1964] for 'The Chalk Garden'; 'Oscar' AA nom [1969] for 'Anne of the Thousand Days'; 'Emmy' Award [1981] for 'Little Lord Fauntleroy'; 'Emmy' Award nom [1983] for 'Witness for the Prosecution'; BSC 'Best Cinematography Award' nom [1984] for 'The Bounty'.
