2010

The Off Hours [Megan Griffiths] HD (Canon EOS 5D)/c; 2uc: Nathan M. Miller; 'The Off Hours' was made on a budget so low, $35,000, as to qualify as no budget at all. Set in and around an all-night diner somewhere in Nowhereville, it is often very beautiful in contrast to the characters whose lives surround the restaurant. Relying entirely on the lowly Canon 5D Mark II, d.p. Benjamin Kasulke balances the night interiors to the coming dawn with a fine control. His shots are simple and eloquent, and the camera brings extraordinary performances to life. [Stephen Goldblatt, 'Variety', 2012]

Holding This for You [Marissa Niederhauser] mdv (Panasonic AG-DVX100A)/c; dance film/20m; '[Kasulke] really has a good eye for following movement, and a really good instinct as to where energy is going to travel in the body next. A lot of camera people, when they follow dance, will kind of back up, to try to get the whole picture - which you totally need sometimes! But he's also really good at just being able to follow the energy line.' [Marissa Niederhauser]
