Born: 1975, Romania, as son of actor, director and politician Mihai Malaimare [1950-].
Education: Universitatea [Nationala] de Arta Teatrala si Cinematografica 'I.L. Caragiale' [University of Theatre and Film], Bucharest.
Career: At age 15, after being gifted with a video camera, he found his passion. He recorded family life and made short films. He was then enrolled in an after-school program for still photography. Went to the University in 1996. Ph commercials and music videos. Also active as still ph.
Awards: Independent Spirit Award nom [2008] for 'Youth Without Youth'.

Youth Without Youth/Un'altra giovinezza [Francis Ford Coppola] HD (Sony F950)-to-35mm scope/c; filmed in Romania; 'I kept everything simple. When I knew this could work, I brought over two trusted colleagues and the camera. I began testing actors in a backroom of my host's pharmaceutical company. There are over 50 roles in 'Youth Without Youth'. How many could I cast right there? But I had an even more elaborate scheme: each time I shot a test with an actor, I'd use a different photographer. They were all fine but I chose Mihai Malaimare Jr. The movie was about becoming young again. I liked the fact that Mihai was so young, had a gentle personality, and was tremendously talented.
