LISA WIEGAND |
Born: c. 1969, Royal Oak, Michigan, USA, as Lisa Marie Wiegand.
Education: Wayne State University [graduated in 1989], Detroit; UCLA [1993-98; MFA in Cinematography; one of her teachers was doph Tom Denove]; American Film Institute [AFI] [1995; Masters Program in Cinematography].
Career: After many years of still ph and printing in her father's darkroom and shooting Super 8 films [e.g. 'Mommy, Where Do Ants Come From?'], Wiegand became interested in the art of motion pictures. Graduating summa cum laude with a degree in film and television from Wayne State University, Wiegand worked at the Magic Bag Theatre before being hired as a production assistant at Detroit's Midwest Video, where she ended up directing three-camera shoots on commercials and industrial films. 'But it wasn't what I wanted to do. So my mom and I started looking at film schools.' One of only 20 students accepted in the graduate program at UCLA, she signed up, as do most graduate students, in the directing program. The school then had no official course of study in cinematography. In 1995 she took a year off at the American Film Institute as a Cinematography Fellow. She returned to UCLA with the proviso that her thesis work be exclusively in cinematography. In 1997, Wiegand attended the Színház-es Filmmûvészeti Foiskola [Academy of Drama and Film, Faculty of Film and Television] in Budapest, Hungary, one of only 16 students from around the world who were invited that year to participate in the annual cinematography master class taught by László Kovács and Billy Williams. Graduated from UCLA in 1998. Her studies were partially funded by grants from the Motion Picture Association of America, The Hollywood Radio and Television Society, Federico DeLaurentiis and doph Owen Roizman.
Was co-c.op on reality tv-shows for VH1 [8-part series 'Celebrity Fit Club', 2004], Bravo ['Sports Kids', 2005], Discovery Health Channel ['National Body Challenge 2006'], etc.
Ph music videos. Directed & ph 40 videos showing new products of the Ford Motor Company.
Active as cinematography professor at California State University [Long Beach], UCLA [Beginning Digital Filmmaking, 2006], American Film Institute, AMC Movie Academy & Loyola Marymount University [Los Angeles].
Awards: ASC 'Karl Struss Heritage Award' [1998]; UCLA FF 'Best Cinematography' [1999] for 'Jornada del Muerto'.
