PETER WUNSTORF ASC |
Born: 15 July 1959, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
Career: 'In the 1950s, his German parents immigrated to Canada and moved to Edmonton where he was born and raised. He knew he wanted to make movies since he was 12. He shot his first film on his father's 8mm camera. By the age of 19, he was already shooting news and commercials for CKRD [now CHCA], a small television station in Red Deer, Alberta. Two years later he moved on to work for CBC-tv French News where he was one of the last cameramen to shoot on 16mm reversal. Three years later he became a freelancer and started shooting music videos, documentaries, small dramas and, finally, three low budget features that launched his movie making career. These features brought critical acclaim and attention not only to the directors, but to the cinematographer as well. John Pozer's b&w film, 'The Grocer's Wife', was selected to open 'Critics' Week' at the 1992 Cannes Film Festival. Since that time, he has photographed nine American television pilots and almost a dozen Canadian feature films [working with directors Mina Shum and Francis Damberger]. Mina Shum's 'Double Happiness' was screened at Sundance and earned him a 'Genie' nomination.' [Peter Wunstorf]
